Historically, minorities and people of color have not had as many accessible resources for mental health services. Those who may need assistance might choose not to seek it because of issues including, but not limited to stigma and lack of representation. Trauma and its effects vary from person to person, case to case, and I believe that no two experiences of trauma and pain are the same – even if the act an individual experiences is. Every person perceives, feels and assimilates things differently, and giving a slapstick solution to anything and everything isn’t my approach.

My focus is on creating a respectful, judgement-free, safe space for all my clients, making sure that what we do in therapy is guided by what they specifically need – catering to their physical, mental, psychological and emotional well-being, regardless of their race, sex, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation. I prefer combining aspects of psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), solely depending on the client’s requirements, history, and their goals from therapy. Because at the end of the day, the client’s holistic overall well-being is my primary concern and aim, over everything else.

Sometimes as individuals, we forget that self-care is a cornerstone of our lives. One of the most common misconceptions about seeking therapy as a treatment is having "serious issues." For some, talking to a stranger about everyday struggles may come across as a sign of weakness; in fact, It is a sign of true strength that many people have a hard time seeing.
As a therapist, I operate a person-centered approach, which focuses on your aspirations and is tailored to your unique circumstances to provide a compassionate, safe, and healthy environment to facilitate comfortability and self-exploration.
I have experience working with children, adolescents, teens, parents, adults, and families dealing with a wide range of diagnoses such as depression, anxiety disorders, postpartum, ADHD, autism, schizophrenia, relationship issues, attachment issues, abandonment issues, self-esteem, bullying, crisis, and trauma. When adhering to myself as a therapist, I am understanding & monotone. I adhere to a worldview that consists of maintaining a body language that is seen as calm and relaxing. In terms of strengths with diagnoses, I have worked with many bipolar, major depressive, schizophrenic and schizoaffective clients. The strengths adhere to being able to adhere to cognitive behavioral therapy. Another strength would be being able to come up with crisis plans, knowing what symptoms to adhere to and knowing triggers. As I’ve worked with the mental health population for more than 4 years, I can recognize when a client is on the verge of being hospitalized. Another strength is being able to have technological skills due to some clients not being able to adhere to updated technology.

As a therapist I follow a Person-Centered Approach to counseling. I believe the best treatment plans are those created tailored to each individual client's needs. Similarly in group therapy I believe each group is different and each group experience should be tailored to what the specific group needs. I pride myself on being versatile and able to work with any and all cultures and ethnic groups. Each client presents different ideologies, different beliefs, different problems, different mental states, and differing experiences; to properly counsel or help a client you have to meet them where they are at and create an effective plan according to their needs and wants. This requires flexibility and a non-rigid mindset to properly counsel each client and using different tools and techniques dependent on the client's specific situation and temperament.

Imagine planting a seed, we know that the sun, water, soil and You(planter) are elements in divine harmony working towards a fruitful harvest. You may choose to plant any seed in the soil, the seed will grow! Often, we are planting seeds in our consciousness, and we nurture and cultivate those seeds through our thoughts, behaviors, and how we adjust in life.

How we adjust in life is based on how we perceive what is occurring in our reality and how we perceive ourselves in relation to the reality. When we are unsure…do we plant seeds of doubt or seeds of discovery? Both will grow, so which seed do you choose to plant?

“Think of me as an element”

You can think of me as an element that is working in harmony, balance and in an order with you, to help cultivate the most fruitful state of being! The most fruitful state of being is where self-mastery exists, a healthy state of mind, clarity, and the ability to have grace while navigating through more difficult life transitions. I am here to encourage and support you in the ability to adjust to life in accordance with your highest good.

I carry with me over 10 years of experience working with adolescents, individuals and families improving their relationships to themselves and others. My work has reflected helping individuals navigate depression and anxiety, feelings of low self-esteem, healing traumas, and adjusting well to various life transitions. I have worked in a forensic setting for numerous years helping individuals deal with grief, crisis interventions, suicidal ideations, family conflict and separation, post-traumatic stress disorder, grief of loved ones, grief of their old selves and adjusting to their new sense of reality. I have experienced with working with individuals that committed sexual offenses, court mandated anger management, homelessness and foster care. As a former foster parent, I contributed to the enrichment, safety, and development of pre-teen and teenage girls to help provide guidance and support through their various life transitions. I am very comfortable to work with individuals from various backgrounds, as I am a humanitarian by nature!

What do I bring to the session?

I bring an engaging positive energy into each session. I follow a person-centered approach in which each session is tailored to your specific needs. I help to build on your strengths, and gracefully work through any thoughts that are challenging or that may not be serving your highest good.

I bring a unique blend of academic rigor and compassionate understanding to my practice. I graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a bachelor’s degree in forensic psychology and a minor in counseling, and I’m currently pursuing my master’s in mental health counseling to deepen my knowledge and expertise. Through attending to adults grappling with depression, anxiety, panic disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, I’ve developed a deep empathy and insight into the complexities of mental health struggles. My passion for destigmatizing the negative views on therapy drives me to create a safe and nonjudgmental space where individuals can seek help and embark on their journey towards healing and self-discovery.

My passion and commitment to supporting individuals on their healing journey stems from my eight years of working with adolescents on their post-secondary trajectories. As a college and career counselor, my primary focus was to ensure students could access post-secondary education while feeling empowered to navigate what they identified as a successful life. This experience guided me to currently pursue a Master’s program specializing in Mental Health Counseling. As a Mental Health Counselor, I aim to provide my clients with a warm and safe space by incorporating different client-centered and holistic therapeutic approaches. These include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). I am dedicated to providing a supportive, understanding, and non-judgemental therapeutic alliance, centered on the growth and development of the individual

There are a lot of ups and downs that we experience as we journey through this thing called life.  Sometimes this journey can become very overwhelming, taking us through periods of great joy and terrible sadness.  It is common to feel alone, not knowing where to turn or what to do. Everyone deserves to feel supported, validated, listened to, and safe to express the good and not-so-good times that come with this beautiful ride of life.  As your counselor, my goal is to do just that.  I will work to create a safe space without judgment for you to acknowledge, learn, express, and work through your feelings.I have experience working with children, adolescents, and young adults within the BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities. Through the use of MCBT, CBT, SFBT, and the person-centered approach, we will work together to develop a higher self-awareness and coping mechanisms that can act as tools when the going gets tough. Congratulations on taking this step. Self-development and growth are rewarding processes that take time. I would be happy to collaborate and support you through this journey.

I view my role as a therapist as one of trust and collaboration. I believe that people are their own experts and that we are all doing our best with what we have. Together we will observe patterns and strengths to continue forging a path ahead that feels authentic. I use a person-centered lens and I employ a variety of different interventions based on the specific needs of the individual or couple I am working with. I am currently a student in the Marriage & Family Therapy program at LIU. My approach is psychoanalytical - I encourage individuals & couples to dig deeper into their lived experiences to find how their perceptions impact them into the present day. The end objective is greater comprehension of the self, and subsequently, greater understanding, patience, and healthier connections with those around us.
